Cereal Bonanza

In the last couple of weeks, I have bought 21 boxes of Kellog's Cereal for $.60 each. Albertson's had them on sale for $1.59 per box. I had $1 off coupons for each box of cereal that I bought, making them .60 each.

For those of you who ask the question, is couponing really worth it? Let me answer that for you in math form.

21 x .60 = $12.60 I had a coupon for every box of cereal.
Now, lets suppose I didn't have any coupons, but I still bought them at the store sale price which was $1.59 per box. 21 x $1.59 = $33.39. And lets take it a step further, and suppose that I bought the cereal at the normal price of $3.99 (even though some of them were $4.85 a box, I'll use $3.99 as an average price). 21 x $3.99 = $83.79.

So you can see the difference
$12.60/$33.39/$83.79
$12.00 would get me 3 boxes of cereal at the regular price.

Are coupons worth it? In my opinion-YOU BET THEY ARE!

Kanani...I wish I had stores here to take advantage of the coupons with! All I have is Wal-Mart and Safeway...do you have any tips for those 2 stores? Anything else is 100+ miles away and not worth the time/$ investment!

Yes, I have a GREAT tip for you! Do the ads for the stores that are far away from you still come in your paper? Like the albertson's ad or the Smiths ad? If so, Walmart should price match the competitors ad.

For example: if you take the albertsons ad into walmart, and show them that the cereal is on sale, they will give it to you at the albertson's sale price.

I would call your Walmart and ask them if they price match (they should, most do) and ask them if they take coupons printed from the internet.

I will often take 2 or 3 different ads into walmart so I can do my one stop shopping. THis allows me to get the sale price and saves me time and gas money so I don't have to drive around.
