I haven't been shopping Walgreens much since they did away with their Easy Saver Books. But this is a deal that I couldn't pass up.

At Walgreen's they have a coupon booklet/flyer with a bunch of coupons in it. It is orange and says on the front: Walgreens back 2 school coupon book. Over $50 in savings inside.
Inside that booklet is a $2 off coupon for Huggies Wipes 64 to 216 count. There are some manufacture coupons & home mailer coupons out there for .75 off and $1.00 off too.

Walgreens has the 64 count tubs priced at $2.99 (check your walgreens-they may have them priced differently)
So with the coupons, here's the breakdown:
$2.99
minus $2 Walgreens coupon
minus manufacture coupon (.75 or $1)
Total out of pocket would be: .25 or FREE!

I just went and paid .44 per tub using the .75 home mailer coupon. This includes sales tax.

S-A-W-EEEEET

Even if you don't have any manufacture coupons, $1 isn't a bad price.

*a couple of tips:
Give the cashier your manufacture coupon first and then the walgreens coupon. This should make your transaction run smoothly without any coupons beeping.

You should be able to use one walgreens coupon for multiple tubs of wipes. I don't think you need one coupon per tub.

**Note: I just bought 7 tubs and only had 3 manufacture coupons ($1 off, .75 off, & .50 off) I paid $6.11 for all 7 tubs. This includes sales tax. It ends up being .87 a tub. Not the best deal, but with a baby coming in 2 weeks, I know I will be needing them. So at .87 a tub, I can handle that price. I would have bought wipes anyways.

Had another great shopping trip at Albertson's this morning.

I got $245.36 in groceries and paid $28.63 out of pocket, plus I got $15 back in catalina's to spend on my next shopping trip. So it's really like paying $13.63 out of pocket.

8 bottles of All laundry detergent
9 bags of Chex Mix
4 bags of granola
2 jars of mayo
3 bottles of salad dressing
5 pouches of cookie mix
2 pouches of pasta

That's 58 items at .24 cents each.

The Best and Worst Shopping Trip EVER!

I went to Albertson's to get in on the All Small & Mighty Laundry Detergent deal (which doesn't start until tomorrow by the way). Gahhh!!! The ad was misleading. Since I was already there and couldn't get the detergent, I thought I would use my coupons and do their buy $30 worth of select items and get $15 in catalina's back.

I eneded up doing 3 different $30 transactions.

The Best part was, I spent $14.96 and got $174.69 worth of groceries. Plus I got $15 back in catalina's for future purchases. So it's basically like I got all this stuff for free because I had some catalina's to start off with.

I got:
4 jars of mayo
9 boxes of cereal
4 containers of butter
11 deoderant
10 shampoo/conditioner
6 brownie mixes
2 salad dressings
2 cereal bars
3 candy bars

I got 51 items for .29 cents a piece.

The worst part was, I had all 3 of my kids with me. Don't ask me what I was thinking. I should have just left. Three and a half hours later, I made it out of the store without killing any of them. It took forever.

Last night I bought 4375 Q-tips (or 10 boxes) for $34, and I got $27 back in catalina's to spend on my next shopping trip.

*funny story:
The day before I came across this deal my husband says: I used a Q-tip brand q-tip the other day and it was Awesome! (I normally buy the Equate brand-cuz I'm frugal like that. It's not often that a good Q-tip deal comes up.) Anyway I found it ironic that he had just mentioned that Q-tip brand q-tips are so much more better than the generic brand and then I come home with 10 boxes of Q-tip brand q-tips the following day.

This week, Walgreens has Bayer Breeze 2 blood glucose monitors on sale for $14.99. AND for every one you buy, you get $5 back in register rewards.

These coupons are golden. On the coupon it says that it is good for up to $30.00. All I had to pay was $1.03 tax for each one I bought. I had four coupons.

I don't need or use the monitors, but if they will pay me to buy them, then I'll buy them. I will be donating them.

Albertson's is having a deal where if you buy $25 worth of participating Unilever/Kraft items you get $10 off meat or seafood. Combine the sale items with coupons and you can have your Easter feast for pretty cheap! Sale ends, April 14.

**Also, in Sunday's newspaper, there was a Unilever insert that has a rebate for meat. So this makes the deal even sweeter!

I went this morning and here's what I got. Since I've been out of the couponing game for a couple of months now, I didn't have any coupons from newspaper inserts. But I did have some printed coupons for most of the items I bought.
To take advantage of this sale, I did one transaction, and I purchesed $40 worth of Unilever items and $10 worth of Kraft items, along with a Hormel, honey glazed, sliced sprial ham for $21.00 (you don't have to get this ham specifically, this is just what I got). Doing it this way in one transaction satisfied two different promotions. This gave me $20 off on my meat purchase instantly at the check out per the Alberston's promo, as well as counting towards my $20 rebate from Unilever. (To get $20 rebate you must purchase a $20 ham, plus purchase $40 worth of Unilever products & have the rebate form from Sundays insert. ) See ** at beginning of post.

Okay, now, here's what I got:

So I have been a little M.I.A. lately. I have finally entered the second trimester of my pregnancy and have started feeling a little more like a normal human being. I hope to get back on the wagon and start saving. I honestly haven't used a coupon since January. *Gasp*

I sent my husband to the grocery store and he came back in a huff stating that he couldn't believe how much money he had just spent and how little he got. "Didn't you have any coupons for any of the things on the list you sent with me?" Ha! He finally see's the way of my coupon madness.

I must say that since January, we have pretty much been living off of the bounty that I was able to stock up on in the previous months prior to me getting sick. Toothpaste, cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, shampoo, etc. It's truly been wonderful. Only having to buy the staples, milk, bread, eggs.....

I'm glad to be back, and can't wait to see what deals lie ahead.

I don't know what it is, I guess I am just built this way; but I love anything to do with being thrifty.

Today's topic on Oprah was Being Thrifty in today's economy. It was great, and there were alot of great ideas to take and implement into one's life.

Some tips from the show:
*Barter/Trade. The example on the show: You want your friends couch, she wants yours-trade straight across. It's a win-win for both of you. Lady teaches dance and trades lessons with a mom who ownes a restaurant. They get free dance lessons, the other gets free food.

*Use your hometown resources. Goto the library to rent dvd's for free. Search the internet for restaurants in your area that have specials or deals for kids' meals. Take advantage of the beach, the park, museums, etc.

*Keep a budget. Track your wants vs. needs. Keep a journal and see where you are really spending your money. Go through receipts at the end of every day.

*Unplug your appliances when your not using them. Example on the show. One lady unplugs EVERYTHING when she's not using it. Even if its off, it is still drawing power. Her electric bill went from $268 down to $60.42!

*Coupon. Loved this one! They featured Couponmom and she showed how she went shopping, used coupons and only spent $37.xx when her original bill was $127.xx.

*Commitment. They had the Thriftiest Family in America on the show. They are a family of 6, mom & dad, and four boys. She's a stay at home mom. They make $58,000/year. And have plenty to live off of. They have $70,000 in savings, they pay $5/month for their cell phone, their dinner meals cost $4/meal for their whole family, she cuts their hair, he carpools to work, he does own renovations, and she coupons.

*Ride your bike instead of driving.

*Vacation in your own back yard to save money.

There were some other tips, but these are the ones that stuck out in my mind. It was a great show. Hope you were able to see it!

Had to get one last run in before the big sale ended. We liked the Fiber One Granola bars so much that we thought we'd better stock up on them. (Particularly the Oats & Strawberries with Almonds.) Along with stocking up on the granola, I took advantage of the in ad double coupon and got some cleaning supplies.

How to figure out how much you saved

Because I know you forgot how to do the math....Don't worry, I did too!

Here's how to figure out what percent you saved on your bill.
First, the breakdown: Example-

Paid out of pocket: $94.47

Total of Manufacturer coupons used: $78.00

Total Store Sale Savings: $209.08

Total Store Savings and Manufacturer coupons: $287.08

Total Savings Percentage: 75%

First figure out the grand total of your bill as if you didn't use coupons or store sales.
$381.55 ($287.08 + $94.47)

Divide the amount you paid out of pocket by the total amount of saved (coupons and store savings)

$94.47 (total amount paid out of pocket) / $381.55 (Grand total amount of out of pocket, coupons, and store savings) = .2475

Then
multiply that number by 100
so......24.75 or 25% (this is the percentage that you paid for your groceries)

Now

subtract 25%-100%=75% (this is the percentage that you saved on your groceries)

Total Savings 75%

Okay, so I went to Albertson's again for the 3rd time today. I just can't let a good deal pass. I will report my findings at a later time, but I wanted to let you know that the manager was nice enough to make a trip to his office to get me tomorrow's ad. They normally don't put them out until the morning of.

And good news!!! They are having their Quaker sale!

Target Trip

I went to Target to use my $2.50 off coupons from the 1/04/09 inserts on the Electrasol that was on sale. Before I went I got a tip from my friend, Aprilmar10, over at AFC. In the same inserts there was a coupon for $3 off any KY product. It didn't say excluding trial sizes. Target has KY in their travel section for .94. So......for every one that I bought, they paid me $2.06! BTW, I bought 4 of the Sunday papers which also came with the Deseret Newspaper doubling my coupons. So I had 8 inserts total.

I got:

8 boxes of Electrasol-I really like these dishwasher tabs, and it's all we use now. They were on sale at target 6 mos. ago. I stocked up then, and now that I just replenished my stock, I think I am good for another year until they go on sale again.
5 bars of Johnson Buddies soap-I LOVE these. They smell so good. And they are perfect for the kids.
8 boxes of Ky travel jelly-Okay, I really don't need 8 boxes of KYJ. But hey, if they'll pay me to take it, then HEY, I'll take it!
1 mop on sale for $9 bucks
1 package of bacon for dinner (not pictured)

Coupons used:

Doing the Happy Dance!!!

If you have those $3 off coupons for the KY jelly, they don't expire until March I think. And just a heads up. When I used my coupons, they beeped and the guy said he couldn't take them. I told him since it didn't say "excludes trial sizes, which it normally does if they don't want you to use it on trial sizes" then they should honor it. I asked him to get his manager to verify it. So he did. She read it, made an adjustment and sent all 8 of my coupons through. SWEET!

We have been told that in an emergency having stored water can be a life saver. FEMA reccommends storing 1 gallon per person per day.

My Food Storage Deals pointed out a great sale here in UT at Macey's grocery. They have a 24 pack of Half Liter, Danon Spring Water bottles for $1.99. Such a great price! I took advantage of this sale and bought our family a two weeks supply of drinking water for less than $25 bucks!

I've also been storing water in empty containers such as 2 liter soda bottles, juice bottles, and milk cartons to use for washing, cleaning and cooking. I have not yet invested in the large 55 gallon barrels. But I did notice them on sale at Macey's for like $40. Sale ends tomorrow, Jan. 13.

I took advantage of Albertson's Sale that they have going on. Call me crazy, but I got up at the crack of dawn to beat the rush. It was great! Not a soul in the store. Had it all to myself. I guess going shopping at 6 a.m. is the way to do it. Note: I do not normally shop at 6 a.m. EVER! The last time Albertsons had a sale like this, the shelves were bare and I had to restrategize my shopping scenarios. Somewhat of a pain. And the lines were long. So I thought I would try to bypass all of that, and I did. Here's what I ended up with.

10 pancake mixes & 4 muffin mixes

Cereal Bonanza

In the last couple of weeks, I have bought 21 boxes of Kellog's Cereal for $.60 each. Albertson's had them on sale for $1.59 per box. I had $1 off coupons for each box of cereal that I bought, making them .60 each.

For those of you who ask the question, is couponing really worth it? Let me answer that for you in math form.

21 x .60 = $12.60 I had a coupon for every box of cereal.
Now, lets suppose I didn't have any coupons, but I still bought them at the store sale price which was $1.59 per box. 21 x $1.59 = $33.39. And lets take it a step further, and suppose that I bought the cereal at the normal price of $3.99 (even though some of them were $4.85 a box, I'll use $3.99 as an average price). 21 x $3.99 = $83.79.

So you can see the difference
$12.60/$33.39/$83.79

$12.00 would get me 3 boxes of cereal at the regular price.

Are coupons worth it? In my opinion-YOU BET THEY ARE!

While we were waiting for my husband to get off work so we could goto the movie (The Tale of Desperoux-it was really cute), I took the kids to Target to kill some time.

And of course there were some deals that I just couldn't pass up. All Christmas was 75% off.

-I scored myself some stocking hangers that sit on the mantle for $5 each. Normally $40 for both. Saved $30.00.

-3 bags of Hershey Special Dark Kisses. They were .69 each. I had a coupon for $1 off man. coupon. So I got 2 bags for .20, and I grabbed a 3rd one because the price was too good. Normally $8.37 for 3 bags. Saved $7.30 with my $1 off coupon.

-4 packages of RAOVAC Batteries. Found in the dollar spot and on sale for .50 each. I had a man. coupon for $1 off 2. So I got them all free. Normally $4 for all 4 packages. Saved $4 with my 2 $1 off coupons.

-Not pictured, package of Gummy Lifesavers. Normally $1.34. Had a $1 man. coupon. Paid .34. Saved $1.00

Total OOP=$13.37
Total Saved=$42.30

I didn't see any deals that were that great, but I did find this.

In the Walgreens ad this week, they had buy 1 Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara, and get a catalina for a free Covergirl Lash Blast Mascara (up to $7.99) on your next visit. The great thing for me was, the Mascara that I found came with eyeliner too. So for the price I would have normally paid for eyeliner $6.99, I got both mascara and eyeliner, and a catalina for another free mascara.

Q: Where do I start?
A: Get a Sunday paper, and start clipping the coupons. You can also click on the printable coupon links on my blog and print coupons from here. Once you have clipped your coupons, organize them into categories. For different organizing ideas, click here. Then get the ad for the store you want to shop at and see what sales they are having. Then match up your coupons with the sale items, and watch the magic happen!

Q: What is the trick to couponing?
A: The trick to couponing is to combine a coupon with a sale item.

Q: How do you know what's on sale all the time?
A: I don't know what's on sale all the time. But I do know what's on sale at the stores I like to shop at. We don't get the Sunday paper at our house, which has all of the ads for the coming week (I go down to the 7-11 and pick one up during the week sometime). I also find out about them by going to their website and viewing their ad online.

Q: Don't people who use coupons end up buying things they don't need and spend more than the normal shopper?
A: People think that couponers spend more money because they are buying things just because they have a coupon, making them spend more money on items that they don't need or won't use. For some couponers, this may be true. If you purchase items just because you have a coupon, thinking you are saving money; then you may want to think again. You will most likely spend more than the normal shopper. If you know how to properly use coupons, you can save more money, or walk out of a store with more items in hand than a normal shopper.

Q: Do you only use your coupons on stuff that's already on sale?
A: Yes. If it's not on sale and I need it, then I will still use a coupon if I have it. If I don't have a coupon for an item, and I need the item, I will still buy it if it's a must have.

Q: Does it take a few months of collecting coupons before you can start couponing?
A: No.

Q: Do you clip and save every coupon?
A: Me personally, yes. Even if it's an item that I don't use. Why? Sometimes the store pays me to get a certain item that I have a coupon for. Example: Glucose monitors. I don't need or use them. But there was a sale where if you bought 2 of them then you would get $6 back in register rewards (I'm talking about Walgreen's here). I had 2 coupons that were good up to $20 for each coupon. So I used my 2 coupons, got the glucose monitors for free (because the monitors were on sale for less than $20 each), & collected my $6 in register rewards at the checkout. Glad I clipped that coupon? You bet! I will be donating them. Even the small change coupons for $.35 off are definitely worth clipping. Doesn't seem like a whole lot to save. But when paired with a sale for an item that is $.99, you can get your Out Of Pocket down to $.64.

Q: Do I shop at multiple stores to take advantage of all the sales?
A: It depends. I have certain stores that I goto each week to take advantage of their sales. If there is a great sale going on at a store I normally don't shop at and it's worth the gas then I will make the trip.

Q: Isn't it cheaper to buy generic brands, rather than using coupons on name brands?
A: Not necessarily. Yes, generic brands are usually cheaper than name brand products. But when you combine a coupon with a sale, you can usually get name brand products for super cheap or almost free. This is the beauty of couponing. Those "luxury" name brand items that I would never have purchased before, I can now get with a coupon.

Q: How do you find the time to coupon?
A: Couponing takes time. Clipping, collecting, researching, & planning. It does take time. Before I go into a store, I usually will have planned exactly what I am going to buy, what coupons I am going to use, and how much I will be spending. I find the time whenever I can. I clip coupons while watching t.v., and do all of my researching at night when the kids are in bed. It's almost like having a part time job. But I enjoy doing it. Keyword: enjoy.

It's been a while.....but I am back in the groove of things. After vacationing in California for a week, and getting through all of the Halloween festivities; I've needed some recouping time.

I pulled out the Walgreens ad today just in time to hit some great sales.

*They had Almay makeup buy 1 get 1 free. When I got there they had a bunch of lipstick/liner/& gloss on sale for $1.89. Regularly $7.xx. AND I had 4 $1 off coupons. So I got 6 sticks/liners/& glosses for .89 cents each, and $2.67 for all 6. I also got the mascara that you can get your money back with the rebate in the easy saver booklet paying $6.99 and since it was b1g1 free, I got 2 of them.

*They had Wrigley's gum on sale and I had a b1g1 free coupon, so I got 2 pack of gum for FREE!

*I had some coupons for some Glade Plug-ins that were expiring today. My coupon was for a Glade Plug-in for up to $4.99. They were $4.79, PLUS I had another coupon that was buy 1 get 1 free. So I got 4 free Glade Plug-ins for FREE! I had 2 of each coupon.

*They had Adiddas deoderant on sale for $1.99. I had 2 coupons for $1 off. I picked up 2 and paid $2 for them.

Total paid out of pocket: $12.64
Will be getting back $7.00 Rebate for mascara
Money saved after coupons and sales: $56.84

Robitussin/Dimetapp

I've done this deal 3 times and used three $3 register rewards and paid just under $12 out of pocket for 9 bottles of medicine, but I got $30 back in register rewards.

Target-It's All On Sale!!!

If you need household goods such as lamps, bedding, accessories, towels, etc. You need to goto Target NOW! My Target had sales like CRAZY!

I bought a comforter for $20. It will look nice on our bed. I got these two lamps for $5 bucks each. I will be changing the shades out on these. They are cute, but don't match my decor. I found that it is much cheaper to do it this way than to buy a lamp at full price. Original price: $20. That's 75% off!

I did splurge and got a set of sheets (400 count) at reg. price. Yikes-my first spend on expensive sheets. They were too cute to pass up. They are "vintage modern", ooohhhh la la. They did have other sheets to match my comforter for only $17 though.

I might add that at their Dollar Spot, they have a bunch of items for 75% off. I got a bunch of stuff for $.25 each.

Mostly sticky notes. I love sticky notes. And they had really cute ones for teachers. I also picked up a couple of "mouse pad" paper pads. Too cool! Need somewhere to jot a note down while working at your computer? Just jot it down on your paper mouse pad!

Malt-O-Meal Cereal

Albertson's has Malt-O-Meal cereal on sale: 4/$4.

I just bought 8 bags for $2.50. Along with my Preferred Savings Card, I had coupons of course! They aren't the great big bags, but the smaller bags. For that price, you can't complain. Be sure to check out their ad for the cereal included in the sale. I've never gotten a Preferred Savings Card before. But it was super easy. Just ask your cashier, and she'll give you one. You don't even have to fill out any paperwork. Easy as pie.

In last Sunday's paper, there was a coupon for Buy 3 (of certain items) and get $3 off. Well one of the items was Johnson's Buddies easy grip kids' soap. They are .99 at Target and .94 at Walmart.
Buy 3 of them for $3, use your $3 off coupon and get them for free! I normally wouldn't buy this product, but since it's free, why not. It smells really good.

Trash Bags

Walgreens has trash bags on sale. Ultra Tuf brand 2 for $5.
The ones they have advertised in their ad are for the 10 pack, 39 gal-15 to 20 pack 30 gal-30 to 36 pack 13 gal.

Well, I went there and they had the 45 pack 13 gal tall kitchen bags included in the sale. (even though they weren't advertised) Shhhh, it'll be our little secret. Get more bang for your buck!

No coupons needed, no rr's, no rebates. Just a good deal.

Favorite Find

I found these canvas bins at Walmart last Saturday. They are great for holding stuff-like Gavin's diapers and wipes. What's so great about these are the price. I got them for $3 each. These bins are the small bins, 10" W x 12.75" D x 7.5" H. Now, don't be fooled! They were on an endcap by the bedding and bath shelves. I went over to the shelves where they normally have these bins, and they had them in sets of 2 for $9.99. If you find the separate ones like I did, you will save yourself $4 bucks.

They also had large canvas bins for $8.88. A steal of a deal if you ask me. They came in red, navy blue, pink, sage green, purple, & brown.
